Current status and future developments of the ion beam facility at the centre of micro-analysis of materials in Madrid

We report on the current status of ion beam laboratory Centre Micro-Analysis Materials at Autonomous University Madrid. The 5 MV accelerator facility provides MeV beams any stable element. Six main lines are under operation, allowing analysis and modification materials through methods. Although most demanded ions H He for standard Rutherford backscattering spectrometry particle-induced X-ray emission experiments, many other analytical techniques specific set-ups available users. especially highlights use high-energy heavy microbeams, with important applications in material science, optics electronics, biology, cultural heritage, astrophysics. Ongoing upgrades oriented to improve quality service external users face new scientific technological challenges areas such as advanced materials, space, energy health.
